We think that this stopping place is somewhere along the roadside of the A53 at Blackshaw Moor.

Blackshaw Moor

What we know about this stopping place has come from a single entry in the 1861 census.

18 members of the Boswell family are listed as living in tents somewhere at Blackshaw Moor. It is not possible to tell from the census just exactly where at Blackshaw Moor the family is camped. The census entry runs over 2 pages. On the first page the family is listed as living in 'Gypsys Tents' and on the second page their location is given as 'Road'. So our theory is that they were camped on the side of the A53 and perhaps near to where it crosses the River Churnet.
