Green Lane - Longnor
We know that Travellers stayed in lodging houses in Longnor and we know that at least one member of the Romany Boswell family was baptised at Earl Sterndale. We assume therefore that the footpath through the fields and over Beggar's Bridge would have been a well-travelled Gypsy route. Green Lane is a wide lane, it is easy to imagine tents or caravans along its verges. along the lane there is also an ample supply of wild food such as crab apples and sloe berries from Blackthorn bushes. And of course, the river Dove would have supplied fresh water and fish.
